The ‘Whistle-Blowing’ Policy of Nigerian Government- Be Informed
This kind of article is quite unusual of our platform but we hope you will be informed about one of the new policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria in its war against corrupt practices.
The Nigerian government introduced a Whistleblowing policy last 12 months, however not much was heard of the plan until recent announcement of billions of Naira and millions of dollars being recovered because of this of tips from whistleblowers.
Citizens have requested for more information about the policy and the government has required. Want share what we know about the whistleblowing policy, including contact amount, email, and website for sending your tip.
The Elephant in the room
Everybody agrees that problem is problems in Nigeria. The problem happens to be how to solve it and the commitment to do so.
During the previous couple of years Nigeria has moved from a government where stealing is not corruption and the one which believes electronics and ICT should be at the centre stage of the fight to a federal government that believes we must use every tool at our disposal to combat corruption.
This is why it is far from a surprise that this government is using whistleblowers as its latest arsenal in the battle against corruption.
The Nigerian government is effectively deputizing ordinary Nigerians to sign up for the fight against file corruption error (especially financial crimes) through a whistleblowing policy that rewards whistleblowers with between 2. 5% and five per cent of fund recovered because of this of their tip.
Site for Whistleblowers to publish their tips
The Nigerian govt has provided a site for whistleblowers to submit their tips. Whistleblowers can fill in their tips at http://whistle.finance.gov.ng. With the site you can make a report against a ministry, department, or company of the Nigerian federal government.
Whistleblowers Form Domains
For the website, you will also have to point out the name of the organization, the sort of crime/malpractice dedicated, whether the crime is still ongoing, and your estimated value of the financial crime.
If you have some supporting record, the whistleblowers website offers you the option to upload such document. There is also option to enter your name, email, phone amount, and other personal details, but these are all optional.
The site is fast and clean. My own only critic of the site is the simple fact that this does not seem to be to have SSL security, which should be a given thinking about the privacy necessity of whistleblowers and the types of sensitive information that might be flowing through it. If my ordinary blog has already been on SSL, We believe the Finance ministry is more than competent of upgrading the internet site to SSL ASAP.
